Location: Conference Room, Institute of Optoelectronic Technology

Abstract

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft with an actual workforce of 23,000 is Europe´s biggest organization of applied research. Opposite to the also renowned Max-Planck-Gesellschaft as a pure basic research organization the 67 Fraunhofer institutes are providing applied scientific services for the industrial as well as the public sector. Within this framework the Fraunhofer Center of Silicon Photovoltaics is working exclusivly on crystalline PV. The research topics cover the whole value chain of crystalline PV, starting from crystallization up to finished modules. The research topics also include intensive diagnostic and field tests ranging from nanostructures in solar cells up to operating PV systems in large solar installations.

Biography

Dr. Hartmut Schwabe is the team leader of wafer production of Fraunhofer CSP in Halle (Saale), Germany. He studied Physics at University of Leipzig and got PhD on NMR of Rare Earth Elements at Ultralow Temperatures in 1985. In 1986, Dr. Hartmut Schwabe studied on development and applications of high-voltage photoelectron microscopy for UHV operation in Institute of Electron Microscopy and Solid State Physics Halle (Saale), Academy of Sciences. In 1992, he studied on development and application of complex research tools for single electron/single photon spectroscopy in Max-Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics Halle (Saale). His research activities are at various synchrotron radiation sources. In 2003, Dr. Hartmut Schwabe is the Founder and CEO of Sapphire Wafer Technology GmbH (sawate), which is manufacturing and supply of sapphire wafers for GaN based LEDs and Silicon-on-Sapphire worldwide. In 2008, sawate is taken over by Swiss Holding Meyer Burger and integrated in their sapphire portfolio, and he is the head of R&D at Meyer Burger Germany.
